There are hundreds of writing related forums out on the internet.  Here are a few that I visit.

Authors by Design is a small to medium sized forum that offers a variety of writing experience from its members.  Generally a pretty friendly and active site. (Click on forum after entering the site. Must sign up for access.)

Fiction Factor's forum is a forum hosted by the ezine, Fiction Factor. Not as active as many forums but a friendly core group that can give unique and professional insight in a variety of areas related to writing. (You must join to post or gain access to all of the forum topics) Click here to go to directly to the Fiction Factor Ezine.

MindFlight forum is a writing forum which focuses on communicating ideas, writing and articles and stories published by Double-Edged publishing's growing list of magazines. Each ezine/magazine has a dedicated forum, but I visit MindFlights' most often.

Aberrant Dreams forum is relatively new and growing. Discusses a variety of topics, from dark fiction to television, reading and comics/art. Click here to go straight to the Aberrant Dreams website--cool graphics!

Writingforums.org is a very active writing community with a high turnover mixed in with some core members. A lot of teens and young adult members are a part of this site.

Baen's Bar is a forum frequented by authors of Baen Publishing (including Baen's Universe). Very intelligent discussion and debate, offers crits and good advice.  Sometimes slow to navigate but worth it. (Select Baen's Bar from the menu)

Bibliophorum is a relatively new forum (part of Bibliophilia.org) with a core group of active writers from across the globe.

Absolute Write Water Cooler is a very large and active site. I visit this forum to check on the reputations/discussions of various publishers--small to large--of magazines and novels based on writers' experiences. Interesting, and a good starting place, but certainly not the end of researching possible markets.
