The following is a list of my recommended television programs/series.

I know there's not a lot, but I don't watch as much TV as I used to (hey, a family and trying to find time to write cuts into boob-tube face time)

Shows currently on network or cable

Burn Notice An interesting, fast-moving spy/action series by USA Network.  And as an added bonus, it has Bruce Campbell playing one of the main supporting characters.

The premise is a spy gets burned (fired) and is on his own, with skills and a few connections, but hung out to dry.

The Daily Buzz A nationally syndicated morning news show that combines bits of local news and weather along with more in depth national news while providing a backdrop of  excellent humor and entertainment bits. A difficult balance that I think they get just right.
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno In some ways not as good as the Tonight Show was with Johnny Carson, but in others Jay Leno has taken the show forward.
The Red Green Show A witty, fast paced comedy show that makes fun or rural life, duct tape and...well, you'd just have to see it.
Talk Soup A comedy show that makes fun of the various talk shows, hosts, and TV events.  An irreverent strain of humor runs through the show.

Shows in reruns and/or available on CD

Fire Fly
A short-lived SF series. Basically a western in space where a renegade crew of a small transport struggle to make a living any way they can, flying under the government's radar. Quality writing and characters. Eventually the cancelled series returned as a feature film, Serenity, to tie up loose ends.
Stargate SG1 A science fiction series based upon the movie. Actually turned out to be better than the movie. The premise is that a circular gate found on earth can be activated, creating a wormhole to other gates across the galaxy. The series centers around exploration and the battle against an enemy, the Goa'uld. The episode themes, although sometimes very heavy handed, are usually decent and the plot/action moves along.  Good characters (especially Col. Jack O'Neal played by Richard Dean Anderson).  He adds a bit of humor and cynicism.  Each episode, like Babylon 5, can pretty much stand on its own, yet still advances the overall storyline. From what I have seen, what happens in one episode is not contradicted in later ones, which I think is a plus.  Currently it plays on the Sci Fi Channel.

Babylon 5

A science fiction series with virtually all of my favorite elements:  Action, Political Intrigue, Character Development, Suspense, and Conflict.  The main action centers around the Babylon 5 Space Station and its central role in the Shadow War (Good vs. Evil).  Many subplots intertwine to add depth and quality to the series.  It was written to have an ending, unlike many programs which are mainly episodic and only loosely related and have no overall plot direction.  Even so one can see episodes in isolation with little knowledge and still find it interesting and enjoyable.
Married with Children

A comedy with good satirical humor (some raunchy) but by today's standards pretty tame.  Who can love poor (literally) Al Bundy the Women's Shoes Salesman, long past his glory days at Polk High (where he scored 4 touchdowns in one game), his Bon-bon eating, Oprah watching, big-haired wife Peg, his blonde airhead bimbo daughter Kelly, and his hapless sex-deprived son with visions of being somebody someday Bud.  Their dog, quirky if not bizarre neighbors and the like provide endless jokes and humor.
Crocodile Hunter
A hyperactive Australian Animal Enthusiast...that is what Steve Irwin is, the host of Crocodile Hunter.  In this program the host visits various locations, normally in Australia, but also the U.S., Indonesia, tropical islands, etc. in search of both common and rare species.  Many shows focus on observation and "rescuing" of reptiles, especially crocodiles.  Yes, the fellow wrestles, ropes and transports critters the would bite, poison, or otherwise make him into lunch.

Note:  Sept 4, 2006, Steve "The Crocodile Hunter" Irwin died from a fluke accident--stung by a stingray through the heart.

Battle Bots
and
Robot Wars
Two very similar shows with minor formats differences.  People build robots with spinning blades, flipping arms, spikes, wedges and anything else they can dream up.  Then they throw them into an arena to do battle, with the best robot surviving to move on in the tournament.  Battle Bots seems to have the better format and better designed and engineered robots.
Rockford Files James Garner stars as a Private Investigator, Jim Rockford.  Unlike many shows, Rockford is just a regular guy, who sometimes comes out on top, through con, wit or luck.  Other times he gets conned, beat up or out smarted.  If you like Magnum P.I., then you would love the Rockford Files.
