Archebooks Contemporary, Fantasy, Mystery-Suspense, Science Fiction, Horror, Women's Fiction, Humor, Historical, Young Adult This small publisher does require agents to submit under most circumstances, but is very open to giving new voices a chance.

This house has a mixed reputation: some of its authors I know are very happy, others published with them have been disappointed.

Adventure Books of Seattle Hard Science Fiction, Crime Novels, Contemporary Romance, True Life Adventure, How-To and some Non-Fiction. Publishes in hardcover and paperback.

Baen Books Science Fiction and Fantasy Baen's focus is in military science fiction.

Receives 800+ manuscripts a month. Each submission is given consideration by an experienced reader. Takes a while to reply (6-9 months) unless it is passed up the line (then 2 years or more).
BeWrite Books Multiple Genres and Poetry (no erotica, nonfiction, or YA) A UK Publisher with a worldwide reach (including its editorial staff) that publishes print books backed by e-books.

Prefers novels from 60,000 to 130,000 words in length. Has specific formatting and submission guidelines.

DAW Books Fantasy and Science Fiction A major publisher of fantasy and science fiction. Prefers novels over 80,000 words.
Echelon Press YA, multiple genres from novel down to short fiction Publishes print and ebooks. Currently submissions for print novels is by invitation only. See guidelines for specifics.
Espiren Press Fantasy, Mystery, Thrillers, Thriller/Horror, Historical Mainstream Romance, Regency, and Romance. Releases books in print, audio, and digital format books. 

Does not accept erotic romance, sci-fi, YA, horror, police procedural, cross-genre.

Fine Tooth Press All Genres, including Poetry Collections A small print publisher.
Fivestar Press Western, Romance, Mystery, Science Fiction and Fantasy A medium sized publishing house that prints mainly hardcover editions and markets its works mainly to libraries.

Authors must download submission information from the link provided near the bottom of the main page.

Leucrota Press Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, and Graphic Novels A new market aimed toward older, well-read audiences.

Prefers novels between 80,000 and 100,000 words.

Occasionally considers experimental or "unclassified" novels. along with short story collections. See guidelines for specifics.

LFB Books Horror, Slice of Life, Mainstream, Mystery, Science Fiction, Romance, Action/Thriller, Comedy, Young Adult, children’s, Short Story Collections, and Poetry A small but generally respected publishing house.

Also publishes: Tales of the Talisman.

Marcher Lord Press Christian-Based Fantasy and Science Fiction Seeking novels longer than 60,000 words.

Novels submitted should arise from a Christian worldview. If it is not in any real sense a Christian book, seek a different speculative fiction market.

Meadowhawk Press Speculative Fiction: science fiction, fantasy, supernatural, alternate history, magic realism, Prefer works for adults but accessible to YA readers (desire protagonists in late teens through mid twenties)

Also publishes anthologies with similar areas of interest as far as genre. Check specific guidelines.

Mundania Press Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, Mystery, Romance, Historical A small publishing house that has a decent reputation. Has received increasing numbers of submissions.
Per Aspera Press Speculative Fiction A very small press which publishes hardcover editions.
Poisoned Pen Press Mysteries A small independent publisher of mystery fiction.
Renaissance eBooks Romance, Mystery,  Science Fiction,  Historical, Fantasy,  Western, Horror and Adventure An e-publisher that has, in addition to a fair number of newer authors, a large backlist of known authors.
Silver Leaf Publishing Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror A small publisher that publishes both hardcover and trade paperback.
Tor/Forge Fantasy, Science Fiction, Paranormal Romance Publishes the largest number of fantasy and science fiction titles each year.

Receives well over 10,000 proposals a year. The proposal may take several months or more to receive a reply (the longer the better). If a full manuscript is requested, expect 12 to 18 months for a reply.
Twilight Times Creative non-fiction, fantasy, historical,  humor/satire, juvenile, literary, magic realism, mainstream/contemporary, military/war-related, mystery/suspense, nostalgia-related fiction, paranormal, science fiction, supernatural, the Sixties-related fiction, World War II-related, women's fiction This market began as an e publisher and has moved more strongly into print. This market is quickly moving from a small sized publishing house to a medium one. Their initial  print runs are usually 800 to 1000 copies.

A market I recommend submitting your work to. They have open reading periods so check the guidelines.

 

Tyrannosaurus Press Fantasy A small publisher (only one author thus far). Also publishes an anthology-ezine, The Illuminata.
UKA Press Publishing Fiction and Poetry Seeks fiction of 50,000 words and up. Poetry, prefers 80+ poems.

Check to see when they are accepting submissions, especially for poetry collections.

Virtual Tales Action/Adventure, Fantasy, General Fiction, Horror, Mystery/Crime, Romance, Science Fiction, Westerns This e-publisher focuses on serialized novels/novellas spanning a variety of fiction genres and styles. Beginning to branch out into print with a limited number of titles.

Pays 60% of sales to author.

Will accept works in progress as long as 30,000 words are complete.

The Wild Rose Press Romance (and all sub-genres) Is a small electronic and print publisher.

Accepts works in lengths from 1,750 to 100,000 words.  Examine the website for breakdown and current needs (what they're accepting)
